All rotating groups have music instruction 4 days/week for approximately 30 minutes.

Curriculum Components
Introduction to the Basic Elements of Music: steady beat, high and low, fast and slow, quiet and loud, long and short
Vocal Development: finding the singing voice, matching pitch through echoing, solo and group singing, singing games
Beat/Timing Development: stationary and traveling beat motions, beat motions with recordings, playing instruments to the beat, rhythmic speech activities
Auditory Skills Development: recognizing and distinguishing environmental and musical sounds, responding to musical cues, listening to a variety of musical styles
Social Skills Development: working as a group, working with partner, taking turns, supporting others’ efforts
Movement Exploration: awareness of space, body parts, speed, level and locomotion, creative movement activities and stories, songs and finger plays, movements with props (scarves, hoops, pom-poms, etc.), dances and circle games
Playing Percussion Instruments: to accompany singing and recorded music, to practice playing beat and simple rhythms, to create a variety of sound effects to accompany poems, stories and songs
Music Appreciation: introduction to instruments of the orchestra, experiencing music from different countries and culture, listening to classical music with special appeal to young children (i.e. The Nutcracker, Peter and the Wolf, Carnival of the Animals)
